I Survived Indy Obamafest 2008 (10/08/08)

Shouts of YES WE CAN resonated at the Obama Rally  of 10,000+ Obama supporters in Indy two weeks ago at Pepsi State out back of the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds.  The weather didn’t stop THIS lively crowd.

A big Obama shout to the folks who helped me in the crowd take pictures–I’m vertically challenged–uh, I am short! Thanks! Did make it up to the 5th row. And to Baby Bama (pix will be posted) for thinking I was the babysitter and letting me take his picture (and to his mother/aunt too).

I don’t know if me going last year’s jaunt to see Barbra Streisand in Ireland last summer for my 45th birthday visiting there for six days prepared me for the day’s event since both were outdoors in the rain. Sunny skies did prevail in the end result for both.

The only difference was at the concert I had a dry seat, here I was standing in the muddy (I was prepared–I had my yellow crocs on) grass somewhat reminiscent of the times of being in the muddy infield of the Kentucky Derby minus partying in the rowdy crowd.  I wouldn’t exactly call it ObamaStock or Obamalooza, even though there was some music in parts.

Those of us who weren’t in the grandstands standing in the small sectioned off muddy field, were much more subdued as we were jammed packed being in the moment listening to every word Sen. Obama and the others said that day. It was great to somewhere where everybody was there for a common goal respecting each other.

Obama Video Highlights:

Obama Worker Alyson Palmer urging us to vote early today (me and friend already did that morning before driving up to Indy) and VOTE EARLY!:

Obama & Entourage Arriving:

Indiana Gubernatorial Hopeful Jill Long Thomspon:

US Congressman, Indy’s own Andre Carson (who took over his late grandmother US Rep. Julia Carson’s seat):

Sen. Evan Bayh:

Sen. Evan Bayh & Barack Obama:

Obama’s promise for a better tomorrow also included him joking with a McCain heckler who was subduded in the stands.

Closing Note:

While driving down 36th Street heading back to Bloomington, we ran into a bunch of fellow Obama supporters in a white Blazer all excited that they shook his hand. The look on the driver’s face expressing her excitement was priceless.

YES WE CAN!

Palin on SNL: What Did You Expect?

Alec…don’t agree with ya even though I like most of UR posts. Nice compassionate HK story.

Ever heard of the equal time rule…an appearance is an appearance regardless of the venue. Guess Joe Biden will also get equal time too, even if as brief as Palin’s, on SNL?

If it doesn’t matter, tell that to my 800+ readers to my lizwrites weblog? They aren’t distinguishing between the fine lines of political humor and political issues–both are getting large hits.

Tell that to B. Walters duping Barbra Streisand in to come on 20/20 to talk about politics etc re: the O’Donnell Babs/Al Gore clip—Walters isn’t that powerful. If they ran the clip in it’s entirety, the would have by law had to give Duybya equal time in making an appearance.

Sounds like you and Lorne are trying to keep your jobs with Universal/NBC?

10/21 Today’s Buddhist Food for Thought

Daily Encouragement by Daisaku Ikeda
Tuesday, October 21, 2008

The mentality of getting others to do the hard work while one sits back and takes it easy-that is bureaucratism at its worst; it is not faith. The spirit of taking on the hard work oneself-that is faith, that is humanism.

Wisdom for Modern Life by Daisaku Ikeda

Our lives grow to the degree that we give hope and courage to others and enable them to develop their lives. Therefore, while we speak of practicing Buddhism for others, it is we ourselves who ultimately benefit. With this understanding comes the ability to take action with a sense of appreciation.

The mighty warrior General Li Kuang, whose mother had been devoured by a tiger, shot an arrow at the stone he believed was the tiger. The arrow penetrated the stone all the way up to its feathers. But once he realized it was only a stone he was unable to pierce it again. Later he came to be known as General Stone Tiger. This story applies to you. Though enemies lurk in wait for you, your resolute faith in the Lotus Sutra has forestalled great dangers before they could begin. Realizing this, you must strengthen your faith more than ever.
