Louis XIV did not say that phrase. His grandchild and successor, Louis XV said it and he was correct because his grandchild(and successor) was beheaded in the Reign of Terror(along with his grandchild’s wife, Marie Antoinette) in the very next reign.

Mary B—Merci beaucoup…You are quite about me attributing my quote to the wrong Bourbon. It was Louis XV and not Louis XIV, will make the correction.
Must’ve been thinking of Louis Quatorze when I was writing this and thinking of my hometown, Louisville which is definitely named for him.
Hopefully, my high school French teacher won’t be reading this and be shaking her head. In any case, I guess I need to bone up on my French history.
